THE TYPES OF MAIN LINEAR TECTONIC STRUCTURES OF THE EARTH (TIPY GLAVNYKH LINEINYKH TEXTONICHESKIKH STRUKTUR ZEMLI),

Abstract

In the upper parts of the earth's crust there are two main complexes of structures: linearly expanding concentration belts of rock deformations, usually discontinous and in some cases folding, depressions and uplifts of different nature and dimensions, isometric or slightly stretched. Linear structures are investigated in this paper. Some of them are called mobile belts and some are called fracture zones because a deformation which developes in them basically occurs in extensive regional fractures and does not always encompass wide belts of the terrestrial crust. It is suggested that the regional linear tectonic structures of the earth be divided into a least four main types comparable in terms of dimensions and significance. It has been determined that the isolated types of linear structures have roots in the earth's mantle which is the basis for the study of the earth's mantle by geological methods. It is not improbable that there still exists one or two genetically isolated types of main linear tectonic structures of the earth. Investigations connected with their isolation continue. (Author)
