EXPERIMENT IN MARKING CONTROL POINTS IN A FOREST (OPYT MARKIROVKI OPOZNAKOV V LESU),

Abstract

In stereotopographic surveying of wooded areas at large scales, a requirement arises in marking. This requirement not only concerns the large number of horizontal and vertical control points, but also some auxiliary points which are necessary for a more accurate calculation of the height of the forest in the sketching of contour lines and for plotting on aerophotographs, reference points which are hidden under cover of the forest. An experiment was conducted, having as its reason a search for a more rational method of marking control points in a forest for large-scale mapping. Marking signs were painted with white oil paint and silver-like aluminum paint. One half year later, a check up was made. A stereoscopic examination was used to attain positive identification. Having stereophotogrammetric instruments with magnification on the optical system 2-6x, it is possible for large-scale surveys of forest massifs in populated regions to use as marking signs in the trees, posts which have white and silver-colored identification signs. At the scale of the aerophotograph, the size of a side of one of these signs is 0.05-0.1 mm for auxiliary points and 0.1-0.2 mm for horizontal and vertical control points. (Author)
