PRIMARY CHANGES IN THE FUNCTIONAL STATE OF THE HUMAN CEREBRAL CORTEX DURING IRRADIATION,

Abstract

Changes in the functional state of the cerebral cortex begin during the first few seconds of irradiation. These changes occur during the actual irradiation process, regardless of whether peripheral areas of the body or the brain is irradiated. The primary changes observed in the functional state of the cortex during irradiation usually have a phase-like character: an initial increase in the level of cortical activity is succeeded by depression of cerebral biocurrents. We were able to obtain the first data on the initial changes in the functional state of the cerebral cortex by recording the cerebral biocurrent during the actual process of gamma- irradiation.
