FORMULATION OF CONSTITUTIVE EQUATIONS FOR TURBULENT MIXING.

Abstract

The paper examines the problem of describing turbulent fluxes in terms of gradients of mean quantities. The formulation leans heavily on analogy with the development of constitutive equations for the molecular fluxes. Equations are derived for the turbulent fluxes of heat and momentum in a fluid in which mixing is isotropic along some prescribed surface. A turbulent entropy principle is employed to obtain inequalities for the eddy viscosities and diffusivities. (Author)
