SHIPBOARD MANPOWER, 1965: A STATISTICAL STUDY OF MEN IN THE PRIVATELY OPERATED U.S.-FLAG MERCHANT MARINE.

Abstract

This report describes the size, composition, and employment of the work force manning the privately operated U.S.-flag merchant marine. It summarizes the characteristics (as of 1965) of seagoing personnel and draws comparisons with the findings of an earlier report, Shipboard Manpower, A Statistical Study of Men in the U.S. Merchant Marine, 1962-1963. The characteristics include man-days worked, positions held, highest license held or rating worked, union and union-management affiliation, age, and length of service. The basic information for the report was developed from U.S. Coast Guard records of employment, biographical, and qualifications data. (Author)
