THERMAL BUCKLING OF SHALLOW BIMETALLIC TWO-HINGED ARCHES.

Abstract

The snap-through phenomenon of shallow bimetallic two-hinged arches due to temperature rise is analyzed. Two types of arch geometry are included. The effect of the position of supporting hinges on the critical temperature rise for snap-through is discussed. Comparisons are made between the present more accurate solution of the critical temperature rise and the approximate solution obtained by Timoshenko. Striking discrepancies are found between these two solutions. (Author)
