INDUSTRIAL CONTROL COMPUTERS,
Abstract
The author discusses mode D control machine for industrial production. An industrial control machine is required to have a higher operating reliability than conventional general-purpose computers and can be used for production evaluation and analysis, troubleshooting, alarm signaling, and process control. Principal components are a calculator, a controller, an inner storage device, an outer magnetic drum, an input and output circuit comprising photoelectric reading devices and electric typewriters, a program input section, a program output section, and an operation control station. The program input section uses a reed type relay for sampling, a solid-state differential amplifier as the digital preamplifier, and an analog-digital converter. The program output section comprises a digital-analog converter, a servomotor, and a distributor. Technical specifications of model D control machine are: number system adopted, binary; type of operation, synchronous operation in parallel; operating frequency, 500kc; operating speed, 10,000 times/sec (average); type of address, single address (variable); number of instruction codes, 64; storage capacity, 8192 characters for inner storage and 30,000 characters for outer magnetic drum.
