PLASMA HEATING BY STRONG SHOCK WAVES,

Abstract

The technology of electromagnetic devices which produce very high-speed shock waves is described. The theory of strong shock waves is summarized, and pressure driven shock tube theory and performance is briefly reviewed. The theory and technology of capacitor bank energy storage systems and auxiliary components such as switches, power supplies, cables, dielectric materials, etc. used with electromagnetic shock tubes are described. The performance of some completed systems together with some experimental results on strong shock waves is presented. (Author)
