NATIONAL REPORT OF THE SOVIET COMMITTEE ON GEOPHYSICS IN CONNECTION WITH THE 'INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE QUIET SUN' DURING THE PERIOD 1964-1966.

Abstract

In the period 1964-1966 the USSR carried out studies on all aspects of the program of the IYQS: (1) universal days; (2) meteorology; (3) geomagnetism; (4) polar aurorae and luminescence of the sky; (5) the ionosphere and meteors; (6) solar activity; (7) cosmic rays; (8) investigations of cosmic space. Below we present brief data on the execution of the observation program and on preliminary scientific results with respect to the first seven categories. In addition, information is presented in connection with the 'Comet' category, included in the program of the IYQS on the initiative of Soviet scientists, and there are also reports of the B2 Data Collection Center containing data on the entire geophysical electromagnetic complex, as well as reports from the Center on Comet Data.
