SURFACE WAVE LINE (G-LINE) FOR TELEVISION TRANSMISSION,

Abstract

The characteristics and specific features of an experimental surface wave television transmission line using frequency modulation set up between Maloyaroslavets and Obninsk are described. An evaluation of the results of measurements using the experimental line is presented. The experiments showed that the wave guide and apparatus of the surface wave line have quality indicators within the established norms with the exception of periodic distortion caused by double reflections from the points of connection of the wave guide to the overhead cable posts. The voltage reflection coefficient from one post is 3%. Improvements in the method of suspending the wire will permit, the authors believe, a reduction in reflection by a factor of 1.5-2, which will eliminate the signal distortion for lines up to 50 km long.
