ANALYSIS OF HIGH-FREQUENCY COMPONENTS OF AN/FPS-16 RADAR DATA,
Abstract
Simultaneous radar tracks of a meteorological target by AN/FPS-16 radars were used to investigate observed differences in position data. A linear digital filter was applied to the data to eliminate the low-frequency portion of the data record. Frequency-distribution histograms were computed for several parameters so that magnitudes of differences could be determined. The differences in position appear to be of a bias nature, and a significant number of them could be as much as 160 feet in the 'X' direction, 120 feet in the 'Y' direction, and 140 feet in the 'X' direction. A significant spike in the slant range spectra occurred between 3 and 4 Hertz. (Author)
