REPORT OF CYCLOTRON OPERATION, 1 JANUARY - 30 JUNE 1968.

Abstract

The operation and use of the NRL Sector-Focused Cyclotron is described for the period 1 January - 30 June 1968. During this period the major efforts were in facility start-up. These efforts included beam extraction, transport to experimental stations and initiation of the experimental program. The first extracted beam was obtained on 12 February 1968. On 11 March 1968, a beam was transported through the 9-ft. radius of curvature analyzing magnet. On 27 April 1968, a beam was transported into Experimental Room 2. During May, isotope production was initiated in the cyclotron vault, and preliminary measurements on the Doppler-Shift Attenuation Experiment were started in Room 2. In June, preliminary scattering studies were begun in the 30 inch diameter scattering chamber in Room 3. (Author)
