LABORATORY STUDIES OF PROPAGATION OF MAGNETIC DISTURBANCES IN THE MAGNETOSPHERE.

Abstract

Scaling factors for laboratory experiments relevant to magnetospheric disturbances are discussed, with particular application to a terrella-plasma stream experiment. Owing to the limited success of this terrella experiment, a program for laboratory study of whistler waves in a large magnetoplasma was conceived. Future work along these lines is likely to yield very interesting results for plane wave behaviour and whistler antenna characteristics. (Author)
