A NEW BASIS FOR THE RESOLUTION OF THE DISPUTED QUESTIONS IN THE HISTORY OF ANTARCTICA (RESHENIE SPORNYKH VOPROSOV ANTARKTICHESKOI ISTORII NA NOVOI OSNOVE),

Abstract

The more sharply disputed questions in Antarctic history have been the following: the evaluation of the role of Cook's expedition in the study of Antarctica; the question of who first saw the Antarctic continent and correctly determined its nature; the question of who first discovered Graham Land (Palmer Peninsula, San Martin Peninsula, O'Higgins Land) and, most important, what should this territory be named.
