LABORATORY UNDER THE CLOUDS (LABORATORIYA POD OBLAKAMI),

Abstract

The flight of an aircraft laboratory makes it possible to conduct aerological observations at desired points in the atmosphere with direct participation by man. Aerologists aboard an aircraft can supplement instrument readings by visual observations of the lower and upper boundaries of cloud layers, density, and microstructure of clouds, visibility and icing. Reconnoitering the weather along the flight route they determine the location of thunderstorm centers, investigate the distribution of frontal cloud cover, and flight conditions in jet streams and in upper-level clouds.
