AXIAL SYMMETRY OF LINEAR STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS OF THE EARTH'S CRUST (OSEVAYA SIMMETRIYA LINEYNYKH STRUKTURNYKH ELEMENTOV ZEMNOIKORY),

Abstract

The strikes of foldings and faults characterize the non-uniformity in the structure of the terrestrial crust and the anistropy of its stability. The exposure of regularities in spatial distribution of these linear structural elements of the earth's crust would make it possible to approach the study of its deformation in a new way. In particular it is important to know if the fractures in the earth's crust had originated in the beginning of its development and regenerated later during various epochs of folding or if new fractures have been formed during each epoch. The answer to this question may be found in the investigation of all linear structural elements regardless of their age and scale on lands and, as far as possible in oceans. This problem is approached by selecting linear elements depicted on tectonic maps of various continents, especially on 1:2500000-1:5000000 tectonic maps of Europe and Asia. Any blanks on the map can be solved by constructing spectrums of linear elements observed in the vicinity of these points, thus providing a basis for further study on this problem. More detailed investigation is explained herein. (Author)
