THE ANATOMY OF TURKISH CITIES: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF LAND USE IN SIX MEDIUM-SIZED URBAN PLACES.
Abstract
This study examines the broad urban setting of Turkey. On the basis of representativeness in regional location, age population changes, and functional characteristics, six medium-sized cities--Antalya, Adapazari, Aydin, Diyarbakir, Elazig, and Kayseri--are selected for detailed study. A short summary of their history, site, and situation is given. After a standardized method of delimitation was applied to each city to obtain comparability, systematic comparisons are made on three aggregate features of size, shape, and land use composition.
