THE STUDY OF POINT DEFECTS IN CsCl ORDERED ALLOYS AND OTHER INTERMETALLIC COMPOUNDS.

Abstract

A summary is given of radio-tracer diffusion studies which were made on the intermetallic phases beta-AuZn and FeCo. Proper selection of isotopes in the two cases permitted the simultaneous determination of the diffusion coefficient of both species in the two alloys. Pressure measurements were also made to provide knowledge about the activation volume for diffusion. A field-ion-microscope technique is being developed for investigation of kinetics of ordering on an atomic scale.
