ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE OF ATOMS AND MOLECULES.

Abstract

The results of a program of research on the energy levels and electronic structure of atoms and molecules are described. Specific topics of research include (1) electronic structures, correlation effects, and configuration interactions of free atoms, (2) properties of rotational energy levels of molecules including Zeeman effect, (3) magnetic susceptibilities and energy levels of transition element and rare earth element ions in crystals, (4) electron energy band structures of simple crystals by the tight-binding method, (5) determination of the position of the atomic impurity energy levels with respect to the valence band of the host crystals.
