MECHANICAL ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH CARDINAL NUMERAL EXPRESSIONS.

Abstract

The document illustrates the working, from a user's point of view, or the Protosynthex III semantic analysis machine. The vehicle for the illustration is the English system of cardinal numeral expressions, such as 'three hundred and twenty-six' or 'two hundred thousand.' Various structural curiosities of this system and of the semantic analysis algorithm are discussed. The machine's success in deriving unique intuitively acceptable deep structures for cardinal numeral expressions is demonstrated. (Author)
