SYNTHESIS OF HIGH SPEED HOMOPOLAR ALTERNATORS AND THEORY OF SOLID ROTOR ELECTRICAL MACHINES, PHASE BB, PARTS III AND IV. PART III: LEAKAGE REACTANCE OF HOMOPOLAR ALTERNATORS. PART IV: LEAKAGE REACTANCE OF INTERSTACK CONDUCTORS.

Abstract

The document contains Parts 3 and 4 of an engineering sequence. Part 3 is a review of formulae for calculating slot, end-winding, and zig-zag leakage reactances. Values of slot and end leakage reactances as obtained from these formulae are tabulated for an experimental homopolar alternator. A computer program is included which is used to compute these reactances based on the equations of Kilgore and Ginsberg. In part 4 a technique is developed for computing the leakage reactance of armature conductors between stacks of homopolar alternators. The stator winding and simplifying assumptions are described in detail. Formulae are established for leakage flux and reactance. Results of computing this reactance are given together with a computer program which implements the required formulae. (Author)
