AMSS PROTOTYPE RADIOSONDE.

Abstract

The report summarizes and reports the development and laboratory testing of the prototype Advanced Meteorological Sounding System (AMSS) Radiosondes. The Radiosondes provide telemetry of three time-shared and one continuous meteorological parameters from altitudes to 46 km. The received uplink signal is 403 MHz frequency modulated with ranging information. The 1680 MHz downlink is phase modulated with the telemetry and range information. Transmitter power is 35 milliwatts. The low cost sonde is packaged in a foam case and weighs 1.6 lbs., excluding battery. The design and hardware implementation to meet the design goals are discussed in detail, and the significant test results are given in graphic form. (Author)
