EXCITATION OF LONGITUDINAL OSCILLATIONS OF MAGNETO ACTIVE PLASMA,

Abstract

The work investigates the excitation of longitudinal oscillations in a plasma consisting of two types of ions through which a stream of particles is moving under an arbitrary angle to the direction of the internal magnetic field. The dispersion relation for the plasma is analyzed and the relationship between its four roots is studied. In the presence of the stream, a new dispersion relation is written consisting of that for the plasma and the added term for the beam and for the interaction effects. This relationship is studied for the case of a cold stream under the conditions of Cerenkov resonance and for the case of a cold stream under conditions of anomalous Doppler effect. In addition, 'hot' beam interaction with the plasma is briefly discussed. The instability criteria and growth rates for the various waves are given under specified relationships between the frequencies characterizing the plasma and beam systems. (Author)
