HYPERSONIC MONORAIL ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES.

Abstract

The results of a one year study program to define slipper loads and slipper gap air pressures on monorail test vehicles are presented and discussed. Two test vehicles, the Instrumented Monorail and the Slipper Test Device, were instrumented to measure the desired unknowns at velocities up to 4200 feet per second. The study was successful in defining slipper internal pressures for both free stream slipper and wedge shielded configurations. Oscillatory loads were well defined over the test velocities and peak load predictions for up to velocities of 8000 feet per second. (Author)
