AN INDUSTRIAL DYNAMICS STUDY OF THE FACILITIES PLANNING PROCESS.

Abstract

This is a study on the dynamics of the facilities planning process and its influence on the potential growth of the organization. The investigation is carried out by means of an industrial dynamics simulation model. IBM's CSMP (Continuous System Modeling Program) is used as the simulation language. The results of the investigation indicate that, all other things being equal, the performance of the facilities planning function is critical in determining the actual growth pattern of the organization. It is further concluded that the industrial dynamics formulation of the facilities planning problem should prove to be a valuable planning tool to the practicing industrial engineer. (Author)
