SURFACE TREATMENT OF POLYMERS WITH ACTIVATED GAS PLASMA FOR ADHESIVE BONDING.

Abstract

Several thermoplastic polymers were treated with activated helium and with activated oxygen. Bond strengths of adhesive-bonded specimens prepared from treated and from untreated coupons were compared. Treatment with activated gas plasma prior to bonding significantly increased the adhesive joint strength of many polymers, even with exposure times of as short as one-half minute. (Author)
