HIGH-SPEED DIGITAL RECORDER WITH MAGNETIC TAPE MEMORY,

Abstract

A data register containing an analog-to-digital converter and a tape recording unit has been developed at the Ural Polytechnic Institute. The recorded data format is such that it may be entered directly into the Ural-2 computer. The data register used Ural-10 semiconductor printed-circuit modules. The analog-to-digital converter consists of the following units: control, clock generator, ring shifter, coding circuits, adding and weighing circuits, and comparators. The analog quantities are converted into 12-bit digital equivalents, of which two digits are auxiliary. The magnetic recorder has six tracks, of which one is used for recording synchronization information and the other five for actual data. The tape transport mechanism is the same as that used in the Ural-2 computer system. (Author)
