A DETERMINATION OF THE G FACTOR EMPLOYED IN THE WAVE INTERACTION ELECTRON ENERGY BALANCE EQUATION,

Abstract

The Ionospheric Research Laboratory of The Pennsylvania State University is conducting a radio wave interaction experiment to study the D-region of the ionosphere. The parameters which define the theory of radio wave interaction used to interpret the results of the current experiment are all fairly well known except the fractional excess electron energy loss factor, commonly referred to simply as the G factor, which is employed in the electron energy balance equation. The specific objectives of this work are: to develop a technique to determine the G factor in the D-region; to develop the theoretical basis for such a technique; to make preliminary determinations of the G factor.
