CONVERSION, MAINTENANCE, AND UPDATING OF MAGNETOGRAPH DATA FILES.

Abstract

This paper describes the analysis and design required to develop a system of computer programs to implement a changeover from punched cards to magnetic tape for the permanent storage of varying-area film magnetograph data. Instead of three sets of biweekly magnetographs stored in a punch card deck, all biweekly magnetographs for one station are stored on a reel of magnetic tape. The system is designed to process one reel of tape containing not more than ten decks of raw source data. The printed output from each program in the system collectively represents a step-by-step documentation of the conversion of data storage from punched cards to magnetic tape. An index of magnetograms stored on magnetic tape is printed out for each station letter when conversion of the data storage of one reel of raw source data is completed. (Author)
