INTERACTION OF COHERENT LIGHT WITH ATOMIC SYSTEMS.

Abstract

Theoretical studies were made of the dynamics of lasers perturbed by external magnetic fields and by oscillating piezoelectric crystals; a simple statistical property of the general dynamics was also explicitly exhibited. The description of the laser output was clarified by analyses of coherent states, of phase operators, and of photodetection processes. Studies of the excitations in the Fermi liquid helium three and of the motion of impurities through such a liquid were carried out. Theoretical analyses of level shifts in atoms produced by conducting walls or by intense nonresonant microwave fields were made; experimental efforts to measure such small shifts were initiated.
