RESEARCH DIRECTED TOWARD THE INVESTIGATION OF SOLAR SURFACE STRUCTURES BY MEANS OF SPECTROHELIOGRAPH TECHNIQUES.

Abstract

The report describes a system - the Spectraspectroheliograph - for obtaining two dimensional arrays of spectra and recombining them into spectroheliographs. The technique required the development of a high speed framing camera with a 20:1 exposure to advance cycle. The camera design concepts are outlined. During the summers of 1967 and 1968 the system was operated at Sacramento Peak and Kitt Peak Observatories, respectively. The data obtained is catalogued; the data reduction procedures that have been developed are described; and the present plans for analysis are outlined. (Author)
