SPECTROSCOPIC RESEARCH ON A FREE BURNING ARGON ARC WITH FORCED FLUID CONVECTION,

Abstract

The forced fluid convection arc is used to generate a radial weight flow in the arc column by means of fluid injection via the cathodic boundary of the arc. The influence of gas velocity upon the profile and the magnitude of the arc temperature is demonstrated and explained. The opportunity for higher enthalpy production and temperatures is delineated in terms of this weight flow and the limiting conditions of extremely high velocity in the cathode boundary are defined.
