HYDRODYNAMIC STABILITY OF AXI-SYMMETRIC INTERNAL FLOWS WITH FLEXIBLE BOUNDARIES. PART I. FLOWS WITH WALL DAMPING. PART II. FLOWS WITH LONGITUDINAL WALL DISPLACEMENT,

Abstract

A set of algebraic equations was derived which provide criteria for the occurrence of hydrodynamic instability in two separate cases. The first case considered the effect of wall damping properties in tubes for which only radial oscillations are permitted to take place. The equations indicate that in some cases the presence of wall damping may actually allow instability to occur where it would not have without damping. In the second problem the tube walls were permitted to undergo longitudinal as well as displacement. Again, instability criteria were derived. (Author)
