CROWDS ON ICE.

Abstract

This report considers a floating ice sheet supporting a crowd of people who are free to assume any distribution. The problem is analyzed when the people gather into a long strip, two strips, or a circular area, all of which may vary in size. The worst possible size is determined for the safe bearing capacity in each case. Upon comparison of the results, a single equation is suggested for practical use. (Author)
