CERTITUDE JUDGMENTS IN AN OPERATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Abstract

The present publication describes one of the first studies conducted in connection with the development of an experimental Tactical Operations System (TOS). Major focus was placed upon the certitude judgment process within the TOS. In the intelligence cycle, G2 spot reports included subjective estimates of information expressed in a standard rating form. All messages were examined for presence of the required ratings of reliability of the source and accuracy of the information being sent. Assessment was made of the quantitative and qualitative improvement that could be expected under operating conditions within a computerized TOS.
