THE CHARGE ON ATOMS IN FERROCENE AND ITS ANALOGS,

Abstract

From molecular orbital calculations and from previously published experimental data the positive charge of the metal atom and the distribution of negative charges on the rings are given for M(C5H5)2, where M is Mg, Ti, Sn, Pb, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt; M(C5H5)3 where M is Al, Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er, Yb, U, As, Sb, Bi; M(C6H6)2 where M is V, Cr, Mo, W, Fe, Ni, Ru, Pd, Pt; M(C5H5)2Cl and M(C5H5)2NO3 where M is U, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt. The data should make possible further calen. of the strength of the metal-ring bonds. (Author)
