TECHNOLOGICAL INFLUENCE ON USAGE OF PLATINUM AND PALLADIUM.
Abstract
Imports of platinum have nearly doubled in the last ten years and were 363,700 troy ounces in 1967; Palladium imports totaled 737,100 ounces in 1967. Since nearly 90% of the platinum and over 80% of the palladium are used in industrial applications, it appeared appropriate to assess the trends in future requirements and the possible substitutes for these metals. While some fields of application appear to be declining, the general trend is for greater demand of both platinum and palladium. The limited substitution possibilities are discussed. (Author)
