APPLICATION OF PRECISION FRICTION-FREE AIR BEARINGS TO LEVITATION DEVICES,

Abstract

The report discusses the design and fabrication of devices essential for future tests into the effects of weightlessness based upon the friction-free air bearing concept: Phase A - Air Scooter, Phase B - Air Scooter with Worktable, Phase C - Rotary Disk, Phase D - Precision Granite Surface Table. During the discussion the significant features of the device developed are indicated. A series of tests were made and are discussed, to measure the static frictional force of the stool and the coefficient of friction which proved so small as to be practically negligible. (Author)
