Abstract

The article is a review of all information thus far acquired on the overall subject of new metallic alloys. Individual sections are devoted to rare metals and alloys, single crystals, a description of zone refining techniques, rare earth metals, metallic compounds, superconducting compounds and alloys, concluding with a discussion of polymorphism in metals. Its purpose is to review post World War II developments in these fields achieved by Soviet science and industry and to call the attention of all scientists to the necessity of further coordination of efforts to solve problems still remaining.
