A STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF RESONATOR DETUNING ON THE OUTPUT ENERGY OF A RUBY LASER AS A FUNCTION OF THE ORIENTATION OF THE OPTICAL AXIS,

Abstract

The effect of resonator detuning on the output energy of a ruby laser while varying the position of the optical axis in relation to the direction of detuning was studied. The investigation was carried out using three ruby rods 8 mm in diameter and 120 mm in length, 12mm in length, and 14mm in length. The resonator, with an 80-cm base, consists of mirrors with reflection coefficients of R1 = 79% and R2 = 99.5%. The resonator was tuned with reference to the end plane of the ruby rods to an accuracy of 10 to the 11th power. Detuning was performed by turning the mirror R2 about its vertical or horizontal axis. The ruby rods were oriented in such a way that their optical axes were located in a horizontal plane. It is pointed out that this dependence should be taken into consideration in lasers with mechanical modulation of the Q-factor.
