ACCELERATION OF PARTICLES WITH INTERACTION BETWEEN HIGH-FREQUENCY FIELDS AND A PLASMA,

Abstract

The article analyzes several mechanisms for the acceleration of the individual particles of a plasma acted upon by a high frequency field. It considers the conditions under which data can be taken on the mechanism of acceleration, and offers an evaluation of the mean values of the energy which can be collected by the ions and the electrons. The article starts with a mathematical development of the problem of acceleration brought about by waves with a fixed phase in a weak high frequency field, and then goes on to a consideration of the same problem with waves of random phase in weak high frequency fields. It concludes with the derivation of mathematical expressions for the acceleration of particles in a strong high frequency field. (Author)
