A HIGH-ROTATION GENERAL CIRCULATION MODEL EXPERIMENT WITH CYCLIC TIME CHANGES,

Abstract

The phenomenon of vacillation in a rotating annulus is studied as a possible analogue for the atmospheric index cycle. With a simple distribution of heat sources an effort is made to isolate the essential mechanisms by which a baroclinic fluid system undergoes periodic variations in troughline tilt and vortex growth and decay.
