ORBITING ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY, HANDLING EQUIPMENT STUDY,

Abstract

The report is compiled to illustrate the interface requirements as understood by GD/A and estimate the extent of the task for handling of the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory from its place of assembly and checkout until it is installed on the booster in the Service Tower at Complex 12, AMR. A study of the various missile configurations that must be accomodated in the service tower and proposed minimum modifications to the service tower are presented. A method is also presented for handling the spacecraft, encapsulated, in the nose fairing, and its transportation from assembly area to its junction with the booster in the Service Tower. (Author)
