ZOOPLANKTON OFF THE WEST COAST OF THE SOUTH CASPIAN (CASPIUM) (Zooplankton Zapadnogo Poberezhya Yuzhnogo Kaspiya),

Abstract

Results of an investigation of the qualitative and quantitative composition of zooplankton in the Apsheron-Lenkoran district of South Caspium are discussed. Plankton was collected in seven sections at 28 stations in summers of 1959 and 1961, in winter, spring and autumn of 1962. Over 21 animal species were found. Evadnetrigona, Polyphemus exiguus and some others were predominant by their biomass. Maximal zooplankton biomasses were found in spring and autumn. The maximal development of zooplankton was revealed in autumn near Astara (biomass of 500mg/cu m). (Author)
