FURTHER STUDIES ON SIMILITUDE: SPACE THERMAL ENVIRONMENT AND CONTROL,

Abstract

A prerequisite to the acquiring of definitive information from the testing of scaled models of satellites and other space vehicles in a space thermal environment simulator is a thorough understanding of the controlling factors for similarity. This is especially true since the arbitrary selection of the various relevant parameters may lead to inconclusive if not erroneous results. Significantly, it need not follow that a one to one correspondence exists between thermal and geometric scales. Thus, this study was made to determine the nature of the requisite conditions for thermal and geometric similitude and to demonstrate the validity of the results. (Author)
