MIXING OF RUBY AND NEODYMIUM LASER OUTPUTS,

Abstract

The outputs of two synchronized ruby (1.06 micrometers) and neodymium glass (1.06 micrometers) giant-pulse lasers pumped by 1000- and 600-j xenon flashlamps, respectively, were mixed. Q-switching was done by means of a total-internal-reflection prism rotating at 14000 rpm. A KDP crystal was used as the nonlinear element. The output power of each laser at the sum frequency of 0.42 micrometers was 1.3 Mwt. A comparative analysis was made of the sum-frequency output and the power of the second harmonic of the neodymium glass laser. Based on this comparison, the resultant output at the sum frequency was about 1.4 times less than the power of the second harmonic of the neodymium glass laser, viz., 40 kw. (Author)
