PIEZOELECTRIC ACCELEROMETER INSTRUMENTATION FOR GAS GUNS,

Abstract

The report summarizes work done to use piezoelectric accelerometer instrumentation and trailing-wire techniques in an air-gun application. The work was done in three phases: (1) conversion of normally low-velocity drop shock instrumentation to air guns; (2) application of this system in determining peak and average deceleration levels as well as time duration of various shock pulses; (3) compilation of data for an air-gun system to use in production testing. The advantages and disadvantages of the instrumentation are presented, as well as a detailed test procedure. Particular attention is given to the data obtained from phase 3. The shock phenomena are shown which could not have been obtained with previous instrumentation. (Author)
