C-BAND AND X-BAND DUAL FUNCTION OSCILLATORS.

Abstract

Considerable effort was devoted to determining the cathode processing and improvement which will be effective in achieving greater stability during life at C-band. C-band circuit development work was devoted to optimization for each tube in each of the seven lots of tubes that were evaluated. Effort directed toward the development of X-band triodes and circuits was minimal while the cathode study was being made. The construction features for the seven lots of tubes used for cathode evaluations are provided. Data has been included to indicate the relationships between triode characteristics and oscillator performance. Life testing of representative tubes from five lots was initiated using a video grid-pulse condition. Although these tests are incomplete, preliminary results are included. C-band triode-cavity oscillators were assembled and tested preparatory to shipment of five units to the contractor's test facility. Oscillator life tests will be conducted on the remaining units. Triodes in these circuits have incorporated the interwoven damper-wire grid structure. Frequency modulating effects as a function of changes in pulse repetition rate are included as part of the triode-cavity oscillator performance data. (Author)
