A DESCRIPTION OF LASER-PRODUCED PLASMAS. I. ELECTRON AND ION TEMPERATURES,

Abstract

A method is derived for obtaining ion temperature in laser-produced plasmas from experimental results. Ion temperatures are then obtained from published data. Various determinations of electron temperatures in similar plasmas are considered. It is found that for incident laser beam intensities on solid targets in the range of 10 to the 10th or 11th power watts per square centimeter, electron and ion temperature lie between 10 and 20 electron volts. Means of improving experimental results, on which the ion temperature determinations are based, are also discussed. (Author)
