CODING IN COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING,

Abstract

Coding theory and technique are discussed, and the selection of codes in designing transmission and processing systems of discrete information is described. Coding problems with the use of nonuniform and uniform codes, as well as the problems of optimum coded signal reception under various noise conditions and in cases when the parameters of the received signal are unknown are also discussed. The methods of statistical or effective coding are examined in connection with the problem of raising the effectiveness of discrete information transmission systems. The problems of noise-proof coding are examined in connection with the use of uniform codes; the problems of optimum coded signal reception are discussed in relation to the problem of increasing the noise immunity of a discrete information transmission system.
